Discover the Sculptural Kitchen Island in The Architect’s House

In this refined mid-Edwardian terrace in West London, we worked closely with MWAI Architects to realise a sculptural kitchen island that reimagines the possibilities of domestic space.

This production-led project centres around a sculptural kitchen island that quietly subverts convention – a piece that functions as a true dining table while discreetly housing advanced culinary capabilities.

Rather than the familiar worktop-and-cabinet arrangement, the sculptural kitchen island takes on a more architectural presence. A raised section of Calacatta marble forms both an ergonomic preparation area and a sculptural focal point. With rich veining that suggests blocks of solid stone, its design conceals a lightweight, portable construction that speaks to the highest standards of craftsmanship and material understanding.

A brass footrest and removable shelving system add layers of adaptability, allowing the piece to transform fluidly from a working kitchen into a social dining space. This duality reflects our belief that kitchen furniture should be no less refined than any other piece of fine furniture – built for purpose, but designed with artistry.

Throughout the space, utility is hidden behind hand-painted, panelled doors, allowing the kitchen to retreat when not in use.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and flawless execution can elevate everyday rituals, offering a kitchen that enhances life without ever imposing on it.
This project was featured in Living Etc in an article by Linda Clayton exploring the beauty of hidden kitchen design. You can also read more on our own reflections and process in our full article here.
